It’s June 2022. Our annual overnight tent hike was coming up again. This time we opted for the hike at Lake Limmeren. A very modern cable car took us up to the mountain station (1860m). From there, the hiking trail followed the steep mountain slope sideways until we could turn into a valley. From now on it was more or less steep up to the Muttseehütte at 2501m. Low clouds kept passing through. These always gave us a different view of the mountains. This resulted in great views of the beautiful mountain scenery. During the ascent, we watched a group of ibex for quite a while. These were Freddy’s first ibexes on a hike.
Once we reached the top, we first climbed the large rock from where you have a wonderful view of Lake Limmeren. A large group of ibex had also made themselves comfortable on the meadows up there. They were still enjoying the last rays of sunshine. We first pitched our tent on this prominent rock. However, we moved again shortly before it got dark as the wind had picked up quite a bit. We found a much more sheltered place to sleep.
The night had been good. We enjoyed our breakfast with a view of the mountain panorama around us. The descent was directly down to the lake. From there, you walk the last 3 kilometres through a tunnel that was built for the factory traffic of the two reservoirs, Muttsee and Limmerensee. It was another cool experience to walk through such a tunnel.
