It’s been less than a year since I was drawn to Paris again. This time I’m travelling to the French capital in February. I stayed at the Hotel de la République on Place de la République again. The Seine had flooded and so the paths down by the river were all flooded and closed. The spring sun was already shining over the capital, but the daytime temperatures were still quite cool. This time, the Musee d`Orsay was one of the things on my agenda. A walk took me from Place de la Republique through the Marais neighbourhood to the banks of the Seine. I really liked the Marais with its small streets and pretty shops. I also passed the square Place des Vosges. It is the oldest of the five “royal squares” and was built between 1605 and 1612. The famous writer Victor Hugo lived and worked in one of the flats on the Place des Vosges.
On a walk through the Arrondissmentes des Rive Gauche, I passed the English-language “The Abbey Book shop”, the former home of Ernest Hemmingway and Rue Mouffetard.
An evening stroll through illuminated Paris was also a must. I strolled up one of the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe. Then I walked through small side streets towards the Eiffel Tower. I took my time at both sights to take some nice photos. Paris at night has a charm all of its own.
